Linda Ramsey, a teacher at Talkeetna Elementary School, asked me to do an introduction to Physics for her fifth grade class. She also invited Joe Page's sixth grade class to attend.  It was a great morning.  The students were very bright and interactive, and I had fun being Professor Physics, as they decided to call me.  It is fun to get back to my roots and teach basic physics, regardless of the level.  These kids were awesome.  I hope they invite me back.  Since I did not have access to a physics lab, I took all the demonstration apparatus from my workshop.  Now they want to see my workshop!  The greatest compliment was that the class offered to give up recess if I would continue the demonstrations.  Wow, that never happened at college.

Best, Elwood.

Professor Physics in Action

Collapsing a coke can using atmospheric pressure

The kids were very focused, and hushed the noisy ones so they could hear.

Showing the yellow light emitted by sodium atoms.

Demonstrating inertia with a broom and a quarter.

Inertia demo, showing how to install a hammer handle.

Demonstrating gyroscopes and conservation of angular momentum.  One girl won my favorite toy top by spinning it on her first two tries.  She was very proud.  It was my favorite top , but it was worth it.

I appreciated all the answers, comments and questions.  What a great class.

Showing the circuit board in a throw away camera.  They were astounded by the spark generated.
